You've Tried Everything. The Pain Is Still There.
Pain travelling down your leg that makes sitting, driving or sleeping unbearable
An MRI showing a bulging or herniated disc and not knowing what to do next
Physio, injections or medication that helped for a while, then stopped working
Non-surgical spinal decompression is specifically designed for these situations. The vast majority of people with disc-related conditions can avoid surgery.
A Specialist Approach to Disc-Related Pain
We combine four evidence-informed treatments into a single, coordinated programme designed specifically for disc-related conditions.
Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression
The primary treatment. A specialist table gently distracts the spine, creating negative intradiscal pressure that can encourage a bulging or herniated disc to retract away from the nerve.
Chartered Physiotherapy
Clinical assessment, manual therapy and ongoing oversight from a chartered physiotherapist throughout your programme.
Exercise Rehabilitation
A progressive, structured programme to stabilise and strengthen the spine reducing the risk of recurrence.
Laser Photobiomodulation Therapy
Low-level laser therapy to reduce inflammation and promote tissue healing at the site of the disc injury.
Your Treatment Journey
Initial Assessment
Thorough clinical assessment, review of your MRI and honest discussion of whether treatment is right for you.
Personalised Programme
A treatment plan tailored to your specific diagnosis, symptoms and goals.
Decompression & Therapy
Regular sessions combining spinal decompression, physiotherapy and laser therapy.
Rehabilitation & Discharge
Progressive exercise rehabilitation to consolidate your recovery and keep you well.
Conditions We Treat
Sciatica
Pain, numbness or tingling travelling from the lower back down the leg, often caused by a disc pressing on the sciatic nerve.
Learn moreBulging Disc
A disc that has expanded beyond its normal boundary, potentially irritating nearby nerves and causing local or radiating pain.
Learn moreHerniated Disc
When the inner material of a disc pushes through the outer layer, one of the most common causes of severe sciatica.
Learn moreSpinal Stenosis
Narrowing of the spinal canal that puts pressure on the spinal cord or nerve roots, causing pain, weakness or cramping.
Learn moreSlipped Disc
A common term for disc herniation or bulge, when a spinal disc moves out of position and irritates surrounding nerves.
Learn moreNeck Pain & Cervical Disc
Disc-related neck pain, arm pain or numbness caused by cervical disc herniation or degeneration.
Learn moreWhat Is Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression?
Non-surgical spinal decompression uses a specialist motorised table to gently distract the spine in a controlled, computer-guided way. This creates negative pressure inside the affected disc which can draw a bulging or herniated disc away from the nerve, reduce pain and encourage the disc to heal.
How it feels
Most patients find the treatment comfortable. You'll feel a gentle, rhythmic stretching sensation. The table is computer-controlled and the force is carefully calibrated to your tolerance. If anything feels uncomfortable, the session stops immediately.
Who it's for
People with disc bulges, herniations, degenerative disc disease, sciatica or spinal stenosis who have not responded fully to conventional physiotherapy, injections or medication.
What a session involves
You lie comfortably on the decompression table, fully clothed. A harness is fitted around your pelvis. The table then cycles through gentle traction and relaxation phases over approximately 30 minutes.

Evidence-Based Treatment
The treatments we use are supported by published clinical research. We don't make claims we can't back up.
Apfel et al. (2010)
Journal of Neurological Sciences
A study of 219 patients with disc herniation and radiculopathy found that non-surgical spinal decompression produced significant reductions in pain and disability scores. Applies directly to the sciatica and disc herniation patients we treat.
Macario et al. (2006)
Pain Physician
Reviewed outcomes of VAX-D spinal decompression and found clinically meaningful pain reduction in patients with chronic lower back pain from disc pathology. Relevant to the decompression technology used at DC Physiotherapy.
